Picking Your Pool and Spa

Honing in on the perfect pool for you is an exciting step in the process! From plunge pools and small pools to large pools and pool and spa resort-like combinations, we have unparalleled options and ideas for your in-ground, semi-elevated, or in-slope installation. To filter through the overwhelming range of options, we recommend thinking through the below prompts:

WHO WILL ENJOY MY POOL?

From a pool magnet entertainment hub to a personal escape, consider who will enjoy your pool day to day and on special occasions. This will help establish the foundation of a small pool vs a larger pool or pool and spa.

HOW WILL WE ENJOY THE POOL?

For routine and relaxation, a smaller pool will give you plenty of space to lounge and less space to clean and maintain. For rowdy play or group entertainment, a larger gives more space to move!

WHEN WILL YOU ENJOY THE POOL?

We offer many year-round options including small pools, medium pools, and pool and spa combinations! Many of our homeowners weave their pools into their year-round daily routines in pools up to 20’ or 25’ in length.

With a natural gas heater, you can heat your pool to 104 degrees in the dead of winter. The smaller the pool or spa, the more efficiently and effectively you can heat the pool. An electrical heat pump or electric heat and chill pump is also a great temperature control option, but they only heat pool water with the ambient outside temperatures are above the 50’s. Check out our Instagram Reel about heater options!

A smaller pool easily checks the box for year-round use. The addition of a spa with a larger pool will also be enjoyed throughout the year.

WHAT DOES “MY VIEW” LOOK LIKE WHEN I’M SITTING OR FLOATING IN THE POOL?

Imagine you’re in your pool. Are you sitting, lounging, or playing? If you’re sitting on a bench, are you facing your home, a neighbor’s house, or your back fence? This will help us hone in on features like sun shelfs, long benches, and such. If you’re playing or swimming laps, then a more open format pool will give you the space that you need.

WHAT DOES “MY VIEW” LOOK LIKE FROM INSIDE MY HOUSE LOOKING OUT AT THE POOL?

Imagine you’re in your home looking outside. What do you see? Is your pool positioned in your yard so you can see it from your favorite indoor spaces?

WHAT ELEMENTS WOULD OPTIMIZE MY SPACE AND ENJOYMENT?

Pools are the backyard centerpiece, but it’s the hardscape, finishes, and lighting around them that make the space truly special. Coping is the band of stone around the pool. While “Hamptons Style” minimalistic pools are popular, many homeowners add additional patio spaces. Other popular features include fire pits, saunas, grilling pads, outdoor kitchens, and shade structures. You don’t want to miss out on all of the pool fun by being stuck inside cooking! WHAT ARE THE PARAMETERS?

Yard size, yard slope, side/rear setbacks, easements, and other factors will influence what’s possible at your property. While we aren’t strangers to Planning Commission and Zoning Variance processes, they increase due diligence costs and extend the front-end of project timelines. We also consider your vision and target budget to be parameters that we’re working within. We only want to share options and ideas that align with the feasibility, ideal features, and target financial range.

WHICH TYPE OF POOL IS BEST?

We only work with premium products! No pool is “best," but certain options are better for specific parameters than others. For example:

  • A composite or fiberglass pool is perfect for in-ground installations. Since they require backfill and waterfill for security and stability, they require retaining walls for semi-elevated or in-slope installations.

  • A precast concrete pool is great for semi-elevated and in-slope installations and is an alternative for in-ground installations as well. They can even be modular, giving more control over the configuration compared to composite or fiberglass.

  • Shipping containers make for statement pools that stand out because of their industrial, contemporary aesthetic.

  • Stainless steel pools are light weight solutions for rooftop or cantilevered installations.
