Designing the Perfect Pool Patio
At Palmingo Pools, we believe a pool is more than a water feature - it’s the heart of your backyard experience. One of the most impactful aspects of your pool design is the hardscape that surrounds it, especially the coping and patio space. While each of our pools includes approximately 14in perimeter coping - either poured concrete or pavers - the patio space extends beyond the perimeter to offer comfortable zones for lounging, dining, and entertaining.
Whether you’re planning a sleek modern escape or a family-friendly entertainment hub, the right patio layout and material choices sets the tone for daily use, long-term enjoyment, and property value.
Choosing the Right Patio Material
Brushed Concrete
Brushed concrete is a timeless and cost-effective patio option. The textured finish provides excellent slip resistance and reflects a clean, minimalist look. Brushed concrete is a great choice for clients who want a durable, neutral-toned surface that’s easy to maintain and pairs well with most home styles. The downside is that even with careful installation, concrete will crack in our climate.
Stamped Concrete
Stamped concrete allows you to mimic high-end materials like stone, tile, or brick without the price tag. It’s poured and then stamped with a patterned mold before curing. Available in a wide range of colors and finishes, stamped concrete creates a custom, high-end look and is ideal for clients wanting a cohesive design that extends from pool to patio to home facade. Similarly to brushed concrete, concrete will crack in our climate.
Pavers
Pavers offer the most flexibility, visual impact, and durability over time. Available in various sizes, textures, and colors, they can be arranged in a wide range of patterns - from herringbone to basketweave. Pavers are also easy to repair (just replace one unit), and their porous joints support drainage. Many homeowners choose pavers for their elevated appearance, modular versatility, and long-term value.
Understanding Patio Space Benchmarks by Pool Size
While every backyard is unique, here’s how various square footage benchmarks relate to different pool sizes and configurations:
These benchmarks help our clients visualize how much functional space each square footage option provides. A 200–400 sqft patio may fit two lounge chairs and a bistro table, while a 1000–1500 sqft layout supports outdoor kitchens, fire features, or shaded structure zones.
Final Thoughts
Whether you're starting with a modest plunge pool or building a resort-style outdoor space, thoughtful planning of your coping and patio area adds both function and beauty. At Palmingo Pools, we help clients select materials, visualize layouts, and create spaces that are as enjoyable as they are enduring.
